Leupold Comp Series Scope
It seems that the release of the new competition line of scopes from Leupold has been heralded with quite a fanfare of praise from early adopters!
I first saw one of these over 2 years ago, when Tony Boyer tested one at the World Championships in Italy. It has taken Leupold an additional 2 years to bring this scope into full production.
The scope has a 30mm dia. tube and weighs in about 5 ounces heavier than the old Leupold range. However, I had been shooting a B&L with Tucker conversion, so additional weight was not much at all. I made weight without any barrel work. Check this out before you buy one of these babies, you may need to budget a few extra $$$ to trim your barrel! Don’t forget to order a set of scope rings, as your old 1” rings won’t fit!
This scope is expensive, around 2x the cost of the old model. Is it twice as good ? That is the A$2,000 question!!!
The scope is available in 35x, 40x and 45x and in black finish only. I chose a 40x for my own scope. I picked this as a compromise, good magnification and good field of view. I found the optics to be excellent, easily as good as any other scope I have seen. The sight picture seems to be quite “white” in colour.
The parallax adjustment on the left side of the turret was very easy to get used to, it is much more comfortable doing it this way than having to reach over to the end of the scope to get the focus correct.
My first match with my new 40x scope was the Harry Madden, and I managed to shoot the smallest group I have ever shot in a match. I guess the scope must work!
To quote Leupold’s website :….
Competitive shooters are some of the most knowledgeable, precise and demanding shooters you’ll find anywhere. So, when Leupold decided to build a new scope for this select group, we didn’t want to get their reaction after it was built. We brought them in to help us build the riflescope they’ve always wanted. Some of the top competitive shooters in the world told us their thoughts about today’s scopes, then let us know what they wanted — and what they needed — in an entirely new riflescope.
Well, to all you competitive shooters out there . . . you asked for it. Now Leupold has delivered. Introducing three new Competition Series riflescopes that combine legendary Leupold accuracy, unequaled clarity, and the kind of power normally reserved for spotting scopes.
Leupold worked with some of today’s top competitive shooters to develop the Leupold Competition 35x45mm, the Competition 40x45mm, and the Competition 45x45mm. Thanks to these shooters’ invaluable input, these new scopes will give competitors an edge where championships are won or lost by a thousandth of an inch.
How does the new Competition Series give you an edge? Revolutionary optics give shooters an incredibly bright, crisp sight picture at extremely high magnification. The superior accuracy and repeatability you’ll be able to achieve is no less remarkable.
Just as important, the Leupold Competition Series is the first competition scope with side focus parallax adjustment. Perfectly adjust your scope for parallax at distances from 40 yards to infinity, all from your shooting position. Then you can lock that perfect focus in place with the focus knob cover. It’s an addition that will truly make a difference in your shooting.
So our thanks go out to all the competitive shooters out there who helped us create the new Competition Series. After all, it’s just as much yours, as it is ours.
