It is with great sadness that I advise Bill passed away last night (15th February) following a brave battle with cancer.
I have had the privilege to be a close friend of Bill's for years not only in shooting associated activities but socially as well.
He was a range officer at Silverdale for many years, through quite a few administrations, and well liked by members and non members who attended the range. His friendliness, firearms knowledge and helpfulness was sought out every time he was on duty. Generally he was one of those people that every range requires, every range wish they had a couple of and cannot do without to make their establishment run smoothly.
He also had more than an interest in seeing the establishment of Colo and did much to assist with tasks to see that come to fruition
His love of and affinity with Steyr Mannlicher rifles, his CZ22 and Savage in 223, hand loading and making rifles shoot tiny groups was infectious but not interested shooting in competition. A man who liked routine in his life, shooting and competing against himself was a welcome outlet for a man who served a work a day week whilst at the same time being principle carer for his aged mother who could be difficult at times. His greatest pride and joy was his two boys Geoff and Grant, their wives and the lights in his life the grand children.
Condolences to all the Dyer family. Rest in Peace now the battle is over
