Melbourne BR Club 10th Birthday

G'Day All,
This is just a small note to remind all that 10 years ago today 20th Sept 1998, a small group of accuracy minded shooters met at Little River to formally raised the Melbourne Benchrest Club on the 20th Sept 1998.

After I was elected one of the Vic delegates in 1998, Bill Hallam encourage Darren White and myself to begin planning and running BR matches at Little River. Later that year after running popular score matches with shooters equiped with varminting rifles, a club was born.

The club has come from very modest beginings with very little equipment but we eventually found the old target frames, scoring verniers, notes, old BR shooters came back and along way it has grown from many factory rifles with a sprinkling of BR rifles to many members shooting BR styled rifles competing in regular 500m Fly, RF and CF BR matches from club to State and National level.

Some of these shooters have represented Australia in WBC's with distinction and I've seen two members become HOF members (Charlie Beck 1999 and Michael Huebner 2008) BTW Charlie has retired from BR and PVM has his rifle for sale. We are diminished as a shooting community. Enjoy your retirement Charlie!

So to all the past and present MBC members HAPPY BIRTHDAY MBC! And give yourselves a big pat on the back and give PVM a round of applause for all of his hard work and dedication in the last 5 years or so to bring the club up to the level of being able to run a very successful BR nationals.

Here's to you PVM and the hard working MBC members who support you.

and heres to many, many more years of Benchrest at Little River

Cheerio

G'Day Jim, I've been led to

G'Day Jim,
I've been led to believe internal divisions caused the disbanding of the previous club (before my time), but thats all history the "new" club had a few old BR members still actively shooting such as Chris Vaz and Tom Kovarik, but time marches on and several such as Ken Davies, Doug Vivian (dec), Charly Beck etc have hung up their hats mainly due to health issues.

The main thing is the BR club in its current form has a rosey future.

Cheerio Geoff
