Hi everyone,
I have tried to get this rule changed to conform with RBA rules but the TRA Technical committee has deemed it is still appropriate for TRA Benchrest standard 200/600 type shooting.
Please familiarise yourself with it, especially if you are going to a big event/trip like the TRA Nationals where a DQ will be costly and heart-breaking. So i am just making everyone fully aware of this rule that has been around for many years but was policed at last years Nationals for the 1st time. Please note this does not apply to RBA rear bag rules that are far less stringent.
Page 14 of the rules below covers it, I plan to take a standard small ear bag with me to these events at all times.

To others who are on Facebook, please subscribe to Target Rifle Australia and voice your opinion. I'm not backing down now on how retrograde they are. We are going back at least 30 years as far as I'm concerned. Prone shooters are making decisions for benchrest.

Thanks for this Bill. For the life of me I cannot understand why TRA will not move forward with their Benchrest discipline. They continue to use an old outdated 200/600 target. This discipline evolved originally from prone shooting using ISSF rules.

There is definitely room for both benchrest disciplines, one is local and rba is for those who have world aspirations. This is just about relaxing/adjusting an outdated rule that may stop people from coming along....i have my old short ear bag and will still compete personally.

Bill, I understand your situation of having to be diplomatic, but this problem seems to me to be bigger than a few local shooters wanting to change the rules to suit themselves.
RBA is shot everywhere under WRABF rules which of course is the world governing body for this discipline of Benchrest. It seems very negative to want people to shoot a target with two sets of rules attached. It is irrelevant for some people to want to turn this competition into something it is not for their own benefit. The whole world shoots according to WRABF rules so why bastardise a magnificent competition to suit a few people who want to stick their two bobs worth in without ever having experience with this discipline. Prone shooting is not benchrest and they have very strict rules to ensure the discipline is shot accordingly.

Just to clarify there are 2 world bodies and each has different rules and disciplines, what we are talking about here is the local old style RTA 200 card benchrest not international rules which we abide by in both TRA and SSAA.
It is a different match and there for a different reason to the world ones.
In saying that it has gone back to all the states to re consider this rear bag rule and report back to TRA in January

"Shoot to Thrill"
Hi Bill
Look forward to meeting and catching up in Brisbane, FYI, I clicked on the link that was in your post and it takes me to "V5a September 2020" Supplementary rules, however when I go to the TRA web site and look for the rules there seems to be an updated "V1 September 2021" they both seem to be referring to the same thing, am I reading this right?
Thanks
Dave
An issue in both original and updated that TRA is still ,looking at mate.
C u in Brisvegas where this rule does not apply mate as it is RBA WRABF Rules.
