I received the following sad note from Don Hawkesworth this morning:
I had a 'phone call from Marlene last night to inform me that John had passed away at 7 PM last night ( Thursday )
John had been on 'chemo for about six months for Liver Cancer, but was taken into Cleveland Mater Hospital on Monday last.
John was one of the good guy's and when I started shooting Belmont early eighties both John and Mike M'c Coy were running the range.
Later he was running the safety courses and modules for firearm licensing.
John was a bit of a raconteur and a wealth of gun related knowledge. Also did not suffer fools at all.
He will be sorely missed.
Thanks Don,
Completely agree with you and our condolences to Marlene.
Yep one of the good guys.

This really is sad news. I always looked forward to catching up with Marlene and John when we visited the Brisbane range. It has been quite a while since their retirement, so I hope life has been enjoyable for them since we last spoke.
He will be missed.
Tony
We were at the funeral today. There were a lot of Sporting Shooters there. He was range manager at Belmont for 19 years.
Stuart,
ps. Marlene is as well as ever.

Hmmmm,
Wonder how all those Sporting Shooters found out.
No info out this way.
We most certainly would have attended had we known.
Don and Norma.
Sorry Don,
I don't know. Bush telegraph I expect. We only found out when yesterday afternoon .
Rod Shannon, SSAA Briis President delivered part of the eulogy.
