Barrel block rimfire

G DAY GUY
I dont get out much these days
Just thinking has any one come up with the idea of using a barrel block instead of bedding the action
so the action and barrel float
The other thing I can not under stand why scopes are mounted over the center of the action on .22 bench guns
If the scope was mounted on the right or the left SO the cheek would not tough the stock would that not be better

Thanks Guys

Hi Chris. There are guys with

Hi Chris.
There are guys with barrel blocks but I don't know how good the results are.
And yes there are offset scope rings in use also.

KIM I don't think I have seen

KIM
I don't think I have seen a.22 BR gun with a B Block on it with a one inch tube or bigger
I have seen a few rail guns

G"Day,

There are plenty of blokes around SE qld using rimfires with barrel blocks and they are doing very well with them.
As for the offset rings there are a few of these about also, ive never needed to have offset rings to get a good view thru the scope, matter of preference I think.!!

Thanks guys I just though

Thanks guys
I just though the combination would make a good set up . Specially with the off set scope No part of the body should touch the stock at all and a little less neck strain
Of course bad bedding can case you troule for a long time before you pick it up
I am sure you will not have that toruble with a B Block
What do you think

Chris, The theory behind

Chris,
The theory behind tuners is to use longer thinner barrels let them vibrate and then control that vibration. If you clamp the barrel it’s going to restrict the tuning. Those square Anschutz actions do have bedding problems and I’ve seen a few of those shoot well with a barrel block, maybe the barrel block is the lesser of 2 evils with those actions. But I’m told it works better if there is something between the barrel and the block with no metal to metal contact.

The offset mounts are not new, I think I was the first one down here to start using them and that was about 6-7 years ago, my ones are 3/8” offset and it does get your face off the stock but more importantly for me it puts my head into a better position to watch the flags.

Record

Hi Chris
The current Record for SSAA Hunterclass heavy rimfire 50 yards score 250.17 out of 250.25 is held by a barrel blocked rifle of Les Flood. Barrel blocks work just as good as bedded actions. In the right hands.

That is intersting MICKY

I just thought the B block gun would hold it accuracy for a lot longer
Less bedding problems I would thinks

Thanks for your reply and

Thanks for your reply and your thoughts on this matter.
IF a tuner stops movement at the muzzel is that movement transferd back along the barrel and into the stock.
So dose the stock abbsorb the vibrations or dose it vibrate to.
Some things I just don understand, . Why make a long barrel that will vibrate and then try to stop it with a tuner
I don't know how long a barrel needs to be to stabilize a bullet in a .22
I like the idea of short and thick,
PETER
I do think it is very important to try prevent barrel vibration entering the stock . May be a layer of some form shock absorbing material under the the bock it self
would also help ,

WHAT do you guys think?
