Some time back volunteers were called for for the WBC.
Are the volunteers still needed?

SSAA NSW October Newsletter has a full page advert
Web site has been up and running for a couple of years
Add to that some 3,000+ emails directed to the web site, National B/R Chairman, Rob Carnell, Stuart Elliott, Barry Warwick or myself from all over the world as well as Australia and the organisers are fairly confident most have been answered.I'm sure the organisers would have no problem in attaining testaments to that effect.

Spectators
For those not familiar with Silverdale there are a few constraints - parking and spectator areas. Parking will be at a premium with teams having 8,12 and even bigger vehicles, some with trailers, and there is to be no parking outside the range property by Council directive. Precedence for space will be given to competitors
and workers and the organisers have asked them to car pool.

Spectating room is at an even greater premium. For security, safety and insurance reasons the reloading room, scoring area and firing line are off limits. The exceptions are competitors, officials and volunteers (who are there to do a job not just look) and this aspect will be supervised by security personnel and the aforementioned persons will be wearing IDs prepared by the Association.
Also the new licence enforced baffles limit spectating and the scant bit of room behind the firing line up to the old range office will be set aside for team captains and competitors monitoring their team mates' performances. The firing line beyond the old office will be used by the target crew in between changes and those posting targets on the wailing wall.

There is no suggestion of an embargo for members coming on range however they are risking no available parking space and little opportunity to see the action except perhaps on the wailing wall but again preference will be given to competitors and the team entourages.

Social events:
There is a ticketed Meet & Greet with numbers limited because of venue and catering basically it is designed for teams to mix in an informal manner before the competitive streaks set in. A technical meeting which is not a social affair but confined for staff and team captains will also be held. A World meeting for Delegates of bodies affiliated to WBSF and an Awards night. Yes volunteers are included in the two social events as a thank you for giving up their time, paying their own way and working their butts off for anything from 5 to 16 days.

There is minimal time for socialising. Competitors are on range from 6.30am, competing from 8am to 5.30pm (that is without hold ups), then undertaking certification for the next day then the drive back to acommodation - minimum 30 minutes. The last event is the Friday, then Presentation with some competitors leaving Penrith at 3am on the Saturday to return vehicles, clear Customs and an early flight home. Virtually some teams are on a fly in fly out schedule. Others who are sightseeing will leave accommodation on the Saturday at a reasonable hour and do their own thing. Those from overseas and interstate who have friends in this country or coming to Australia have made private arrangements to meet up even if it means missing out on something with team mates and other competitors.
