Since it is a little quiet here at the moment, I would like to start a new thread,
I have often wondered what preparation shooters do coming up to a big match such as Australia Day?
How about a few old hands enlighten us?
Rob.

Rob,
I could not help jumping in at this point. 'Old Hands' I mean.
Apart from the usual tempering of new barrels at our favorite range for each of the classes, case prep etc, drawing up a check list of stuff to take (jeez the list gets bigger every year), and I have been very happy with this new superman bullet I've been using - hell you know the one with a bad ass snake label. Got to be careful with the use of 'Brand names' on the thread.
A lot of drug taking is involved. (prescription medication I mean) Two knee operations, a shoulder op and sundry other complaints re getting to be an 'Old hand'..
I practice transcendental meditation. Helps with the focusing of all your senses/ mindset preparation. This was also taught me by my one of my mentors (Used to live in Canberra, lives in Qld now)
Finally, I think, for me, shooting the Australia Day comp in Canberra is such a lot of fun, Thanks to Alex and his team.
Happy New Year everyone,
Cheers,
Chris...
I do much the same as the other Chris except maybe the meditation maybe:-)
Anyway, today I checked the setting on my Harrell powder thrower and taped up the
adjustment knob, re-checked the setting depth on the seater die and started gathering up
all the bits and pieces I'll need for Aussie Day. I have a big tool bag that all the gear I need
is put into and as I remember stuff it's chucked in the bag over the next 2 weeks till flight day.
As I fly in I've gradually cut down on the amount of gear I cart down and found heavy stuff
like barrel vices can be borrowed on the day. I make a list with headings like...
Something to shoot...rifle, bolt and scope.
Something to shoot from...rest and bags
Something to load...bullets and brass
Something to load with...dies, de-capper, priming tool etc.
Something to clean with...rods, guide, patches, lubes.
See everyone in Canberra, Chris
you top two blokes really make me look old and over the hill, as far as getting ready nothing as yet, haven't even fired a shot at the range
I would think that little rotund feller up the top end would be burning powder like it is going out of style, but then that is why he is so good at what he does.
I guess I had better start this week sometime, as all them sharks will role up and tear most of us to pieces, but as said above it is a good shoot, run well and lots of people to catch up with.

I start at least 4 weeks in advance.
First I offer to go shopping with her followed by cinemas. The following week I may take her out to dinner and maybe another movie. Flowers earn you extra points as well and a walk on the beach is worth two dinners easy.
I've lately been advised by some experienced hands that when she speaks it's not enough to just nod your head and say yes, you must put the paper down and look her in the eye while she speaks.
Anyhow, only a couple more weeks and then I can explain to her that she really needs some time to her self and it's best if I go shooting somewhere for a few days :)
I dont know if Im in tune coz .3 can be a good group here, I just hope I get there in time to get it working.Fly to work Friday Fly back wednesday drive thurday And hope I dont forget something. But at least they gave me time OFF to go.Dont want to miss the party.GOOD LUCK to everyone who makes the effort.
