It is my sad duty to report that Ferris Pindell passed away last night.
Ferris was a true innovator in benchrest, probably best known for the PPC cartridge (Pindell Palmisano Cartridge), and as a US Hall of Fame competitor and record holder.
But there are many other things that he did in his long benchrest career, such as suggest the idea of neck turning cases, and making bullet dies for Sierra bullets. He also made the dies Sierra used to produce their jackets.
I probably knew Ferris better than most, and stayed at his house in Connorsville Indiana.
His workshop was like Disneyland to me, He was a master toolmaker, and made tooling for the GE plant not far from his home.
Whilst I was there, not only did he show me how to make bullets, he made me a set of bullet dies as well! And spent countless hours working on the finer points of chambering a barrel.
I will also remember fondly the time we spend in his den away from the benchrest workshop playing pool, as this was another of his passions. He was a very good player, an ex state champion.
Whenever I had a problem, I was able to write to Ferris, and a long letter would answer all my questions. I still have them somewhere, I must frame one.
I will gladly admit to shedding a few tears this morning when I heard the sad news.
He was a true legend, and a true friend, and I will miss him greatly.
Rob.
