IRB and Rimfire Nationals
Silverdale Range hosted the 2012 National Rimfire Championships for IRB and BR from the 10th - 13th of Feb. From the opening bell, the competition was fierce, with no quarter asked or given. Conditions over the four days were extreme, varying from howling winds, thunderstorms and complete lulls ,to gentle breezes. The winners really had to be the genuine “all-rounders”, to have any hopes of success.
The IRB competition, which is a shoot-for-score event, was dominated, from go to whoa, by John Radford from Coffs ’Harbour NSW. James Smith and Richard Lightfoot pressed strong claims, but were unable to run John down.
This is a popular competition, and no doubt will continue to grow in popularity, which is understandable, due to its undeniable attractiveness to the general shooting public. It’s good fun!
The Light BR section (group shooting) was won by the talented, and ever-popular, Janette Mitchell, who read the conditions to perfection. Hot on her heels were Michael Truscott and Alan Marsh.
The Heavy BR section was won by “Gentleman” Robin Cox, who hardly missed a beat all day. He was followed home by James Smith and Gaye Truscott, who completed a coup, in that a Truscott finished in the awards for both Light and Heavy BR. Well done to “Team Truscott”.
All our visitors, both local and interstate, helped to make this a wonderful National Championship that will be remembered for a long time. Thank you to all!

I see John Radford had his press agent hard at work http://www.coffscoastadvocate.com.au/story/2012/02/18/veteran-shocks-riv... Reading it maybe John knows something about team selection we don't? And to think his gun was up for sale after the match, did anyone buy it??
I will say the standard in IRB is getting higher and higher, the RBA record for 6 targets is 1482.73 and that would of only been good enough to get you into 9th at the IRB nationals. I also shot 1482 on the day RBA record was set by John Pazwald and the conditions were not any easier at Silverdale, it’s just that people are shooting better.
