Silverdale Range hosted the NSW Centrefire Hunter Class Championships on 26th and 27th May 2012. It was a weekend of excitement for both competitors and spectators, with some fine shooting on display. The wind howled all day on Saturday, and no-one had an easy time, however, some found a way through the gusts to post some creditable scores. It soon became obvious that Ken “Two-Gun” Eppleston was back in town, and he put on a dominant display of shooting to win the 100 yards, 200 yards, and Grand Aggregate in Light Centrefire.
On Sunday, Anthony Foate took out the 100 yard section, a hairs breadth ahead of his son Stuart. Not to be deterred, Stuart had his revenge by winning the 200 yard section, and Grand aggregate. Take that, Dad! Stuart also had the distinction of shooting a possible 500/500 for the Class!
A memorable feature of the competition was Ken Eppleston’s achievement of winning the “Two-Gun” title earlier this year at our Memorial Benchrest Contest, and then backing up to repeat the feat, by taking out the “Two-Gun” crown in the State Hunter Class Titles. I suggest it may be a long time before we see that effort repeated!
One of the attractive features of Hunter Class shooting is that it is a discipline open to all clubs, given that there is a minimum of infrastructure required to set up for a match, and is a discipline where anybody can “have a go”. For the uninitiated, Hunter Class shooting is “shooting at bullseyes”, with a score allocated for a direct hit, and lesser scores for hits further away.
If you believe you have an accurate rifle, and like to have fun, don’t hesitate to look into Hunter Class as an option. We’d love to see you at our next competition!
