I have a number of tails I carry with me to a shoot as I find not one particular tail is good for everything, here is why.
I had a standard set of BRT tails which were all quiet long, I found at some ranges you can not put up your polls very high so the tails will drag on the groung which is useless. I purchased another set of the same BRT tails and cut them a little shorter and use them only when needed.
The I found the BRT tails were not responding well in very light conditions as they are made of heavy sail cloth or similar. We shoot regularly at night and get alot of light wind conditions and the other guys had all sorts of different tails which were more responsive.
I then purchased a roll of surveyers tape and made a bunch of long and short tails for when condions are light. So for my set of 5 flags I now have 20 tails to choose from.
Some will say that this is too many tails to choose, but again the short tails are only used when nothing else will work. Shooting at a big match in the day time where the wind will increase as the day goes on then I would use nothing else but the BRT tails, so many others use these at big matches then you are in good company. A roll of tape will only cost you around $5 so why not make some additional tails, they come is pretty colors as well.
