The first week-end in March saw the staging of the 2013 Memorial Benchrest Competition at Silverdale Range. Of special interest was the performance of Mitchell Tallar, from Tamworth. Well-known in Rimfire Benchrest circles, Mitchell came to show us that he is equally adept with centre-fire rifles. Light Benchrest was held on the Saturday, and from the outset, Mitchell showed us what he had; - plenty! He dominated the field in both 100 and 200 yardages, and was a very clear winner in the Grand Tally. Well done, Mitchell!
The Heavy section was more a “cat and mouse” affair, with the lead chopping and changing throughout the day. Nobody could complain about the result of this contest, because the winners had to work very hard all day, to try and break free from the pack, which was constantly snapping at their heels.
At this point, I would like to acknowledge our Sydney Branch President, Rob Carnell, who applied his “Jack-of-all trades’’ skills throughout the weekend, cooking for the troops, and single-handedly setting up, and removing wind flags. Thanks, Rob. It WAS noticed! All-in all, we had a very successful shoot, and saw the type of sportsmanship that makes it a pleasure to take part in these events. Thank you to all.
