SPECIAL THANKS BENCHREST ICONS
As I am about to turn 76 and maybe in the future are at risk of a sudden medical demise, if feel strongly there are several people who deserve thanks, who have toiled tirelessly for decades, to progress benchrest shooting as a well respected sport. Those who deserve accolades are sometimes taken for granted simply because they are always there working tirelessly.
There are many to thank who fall into the above category, and many deserve praise, however 3 are quite outstanding as follows …
ROB CARNELL … “Benchrest Bulletin” … A BENCHRESET ICON.
Without publicity links and coverage, ALL sport is at risk of dying. Rob Carnell has filled this void for many years as the tireless worker behind our own “Benchrest Bulletin”, the voice of Australian Benchrest shooting covering both centrefire and rimfire disciplines.
Rob, himself a talented top performing benchrest shooter, also saw the need for better equipment and decided to import the famous high quality Seb front stands and equipment, thus progressing the sports standards onwards. WELL DONE ROB, our sport is truly thankful to you!
MAX COADY … “National SSAA Target Measurer/ Scorer” … A BENCHREST ICON.
Well where do we start? What a great record of dedication to our sport, an ICON if we ever had one! (Gentleman) Max Coady has been National measurer for many, many decades at National benchrest matches all over Australia as well as getting talked into many State Championships.
Max has designed and built equipment to accurately measure Tens of thousands of targets yearly and his knowledge and great skill in manually determining 4 or5 shots fired ( or 9 or 10 in experimental class) is truly legendry. Watching his great experience when doing this is a “real eye opener” to experienced benchrest shooters who are really quite amazed.
DAVE BILLINGHURST “NSW BENCHREST TIRELESS WORKER” … A NSW BENCHREST ICON
I have lived my whole (almost) 76 years in NSW so I cannot speak for other states and I am sure they must have persons similar to Dave Billinghurst, or really wished they did. These comments apply to the NSW benchrest scene.
The only way to describe “Billo” is totally dedicated to furthering Benchrest and a dammed “Good Bloke”! Billo sets a high benchmark for others in the sport in to follow and his enthusiasm for our sport is legendry. Almost all Benchrester’s will endorse my remarks to say we are very fortunate to have all 3 persons involved in our sport of benchrest. John Radford (in Benchrest since 1979)
