Australian Super Shoot had its genesis in 1976 in Canberra when Ray and Tom Stone along with Herb Valerius and Ian Coombes got the ball rolling.
Fast forward to 2016 when early this year Coffs Harbour branch of SSAA undertook to host the event which is now held on a biennial basis. The Coffs Harbour Committee enlisted the support and guidance of David Billinghurst and Ann Brummell to assist with input and logistics given their experience with major shoots previously. Both willingly accepted and I personally was privileged that the Committee entrusted and authorised me to contact and obtain sponsors on their behalf both within Australia and overseas.
The prize list is comprehensive and impressive but at this time is not complete but the updated and near final list will be on Benchrest Bulletin on 10th October. Of course none of this could have happened without the assistance of OSA, Horsley Park Gun Store, Lance Miller, David Kerr and Paul Sullivan who acted as repositories, freight forwarders and facilitators.
To explain the modus operandi for the 2016 Australian Super Shoot the prize giving will be determined by the 2 Gun results with a throw back to the 1976 event - allocation will be purely random unless of course the donor has requested their prize or prizes be presented to a specific place in the 2 Gun. The upshot is that any of the prizes can be won by any shooter just a case of landing on the nominated placing. Class and aggregate winners and placegetters will naturally be presented with rewards that is befitting and as dictated by the rules. Also in the prize pool will be $$$s that are derived from part of each entry fee and again will be distributed randomly by place and in dollar value.
It is not too late to lodge an entry but camping is probably the only accommodation left in Coffs Harbour and surrounds as there are other events on in town.
Finally thank you to our sponsors and shooters of all disciplines are asked to recognise and support the listed sponsors as they are supporting our sport.
