Gday guys,
I'm a long time shooter but have never had a go at benchrest. I'm interested in rimfire bench but I'm a little unsure of how. It seems that you can use pretty much any centrefire to compete but if you want to shoot rimfire it must be a 22. As the owner of a 17hmr Lithgow with a very nice 36x IOR scope is there a category?
Thanks

.22 long rifle is the only cartridge allowed.
Google the rule book for SSAA benchrest or hunter for score.
There is also RBA which is very similar in rifle specs and rules.
You can spend as much as a small car to get set up, but it is very addictive.
Ask lots of questions and go to comps to see what is being used and ask to try. Most shooters will give a newbie a shot

John where do u live ? Maybe we can send you to a local club and u will get a better idea. TRA have local rules u can find them here and also the WRABF Rules for RBA that can both be found here; https://tra.org.au/documents/rules/
