Dear Bill, we all know that benchrest shooting on an electronic ISSF type target is not the goal incarnation of the discipline.
Sure, but our paper targets and its scoring system is not up to modern standards, neither really adapted to broadcast.
I have had several talks with electronic and IT people to try to adapt the current ISSF system (or something like it) to a standard benchrest paper target, and even if its not yet tried, it seems possible, but the cost should be a major drawback. The biggest issue is having to deal with 25 bulls instead of one, not to talk about the sighters...
Do you think, shooting on an ISSF type target for scoring, competitions and possible broadcast could be the future for benchrest in terms of bigger and deeper dissemination? Shooting without immediate visualisation is hard for spectators and hinders the understanding for the crowds.
Or am I dreaming and completely cast away?
Not sure but also believe it is possible, the harder thing is the sighters as it is the issf system paper or electronic does not allow u to return to sighters so u work out your wind in the 1st 5 mins or so then go for it..trusting yourself, your gear and your training matters..in saying that i believe it can be programmed in to allow unlimited sighters...yes expensive for clubs but quicker and easier to run without the massive burden on scorers plus as u say spectators can see it live without an issue...maybe the future who knows ? In any case the challenge remains the same hit the middle most to win.
Great place a fair bit of money spent here more inportantly what a great bunch of members they have running the place and a smooth comp.. results are here https://www.northsydneysmallbore.org.au/compresults.php?compid=3
